Chapter intro

Riggin

- although this word has several other meanings, including the ridge of a roof and the backbone of a person or animal, it can also denote a high ridge of land, especially a crest of high land running along the side of a plain. It is also found in the compound sky-riggin, a ridge of land seen against the skyline. Examples of this term in place-names include the Riggin o' Fife, which divides the northern part of the county from the south.
