Pow
- as a term found in the names of minor rivers and streams, pow is sometimes more narrowly defined as a slow-moving stream, or a natural or artificial ditch. This sense is perhaps most clearly reflected in some of the pows that border the Tay, the Forth and the Solway Firth. Pow is one of the most ubiquitous terms found in Scottish river-names. For example, the tributaries of the Nith include Cargen Pow and Drummillan Pow, and Pow Burn is a commonplace river-name found in many areas across Lowland Scotland including Ayrshire and Lothian.
