Chapter intro

Glack

- this term for a ravine or hollow between two hills made an appearance in literary use in James Robertson's novel The Testament of Gideon Mack (2007), as the name of a dangerous stretch of road. Other examples include West Glacks in Aberdeenshire and The Glack in Inverness-shire. While some names include Scots glack, in others the term represents Gaelic glac 'hollow, valley', from which the Scots term originated.
