- also known as dookets, doocots are the Scots equivalent of English dove-cots, showing the characteristic loss of -v- that you will also encounter in such Scots words as siller 'silver, money', hae 'have', gie 'give' and loe 'love'. In modern Scots a doocot is also a pigeonhole. Not so long ago I overheard someone paraphrasing dooket as 'wee box' in a formal business setting. Local knowledge can be very useful.
