Sanglere, sangleir, sanglar

 - wild boar. These animals have recently been reintroduced to parts of Scotland in the hope that they will control the growth of bracken and prepare the ground for the regeneration of native woodland. Let's hope that these do not fit the description that Adam Loutfut gives in his manuscript of 1494:

The sanglier... is callit in sum placis porc and othir sum sanglier. First he is richt ferce wnclene & ennuyse [malicious] best [beast].
