Tulyie, tulzie

- a brawl; to squabble. This is one of a small number of words which retain a trace of the old letter yogh, which was written like a z with a tail and hence appeared as z in print. It is actually pronounced like the y in yes, except where it has disappeared altogether. So the first spelling given here reflects the pronunciation better (tooley). Never trust a z in a Scottish surname such as Menzies or place-name such Culzean.
