[Pride has entered among us and taught our lords to go with silken gowns].

On the other hand, James Kelly in his 1721 collection of proverbs warns against a kind of inverted sartorial snobbery: Honesty is no Pride. This is directed towards people who make a point of dressing carelessly. He would not have approved of grunge.
