The lesser end of the flyting scale is seen in Popular Opinions Or A Picture of Real Life (1812): We ane anither’s toits now ken sae weel, Though whiles we flyte, we seldom anger feel. [We now know each other’s foibles so well that although we sometimes exchange disapproving words, we seldom feel anger.]
