Chapter intro

Bleezed, bleezin

- very drunk. Jamieson, in his Scots dictionary of 1808, defines bleezed as the state of one on whom intoxicating liquor begins to operate. William Alexander gives a slightly later example of bleezin in Johnny Gibb (1871): That vera nicht he came hame fae the dominie’s bleezin’ - he’s takin’ sair to the drink. Bleezin’-fou is uproariously drunk.
