Storms on Orkney
On January 15th 1952 a terrific storm with 120mph winds swept Orkney. Although families were made homeless, there was no loss of human life. Hens fared less well, and not only were henhouses destroyed but many hens were killed as well. One henhouse was even carried out to sea with its occupants still inside.
