- a very small stream, or even a trickle of water or spilt liquid, may be described by this term. Some strinds are seasonal and only appear during particular weather conditions, such as heavy rains which cause the rivers to rise (or to be in spate, to use another useful Scottish term). Strind is also found in place-names in Orkney, Morayshire and Aberdeenshire.
