Chapter intro

Links

- no visitor to Scotland with an interest in golf can fail to be unaware of the word links, which refers to sandy coastal strips, covered with turf, grass and gorse. Place-names incorporating this term include the Links of Leith, Kirkcaldy Links, Lundin Links, the Links of Montrose, and Dornoch Links. Links golf courses are found in several areas of Scotland, notably in the south-west and the north-east. The association of links with golf has led to the term being applied to some golf courses not located by the sea, such as Bruntsfield Links in Edinburgh.
