Fluther

- found in place-names such as Fluthers Wood in Fife, and also in some northern English names, this term denotes a marsh or boggy piece of ground. It may be related to Scots flude and English flood, and is known to have been used in Scots texts since the early seventeenth century. The Book of the Thanes of Cawdor (1611) describes:

The fludder or myre upon the south side of the common muir (moor).
